Q: How did you come into this field of work?
A: I have always been interested in tech in general, but cybersecurity definitely struck me as the most exciting field. While I didn’t start out in this field specifically, when an opportunity with Interset appeared, I jumped on it!

Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: One of the blessings and curses of this job (and cybersecurity in general) is that there is always a new challenge. I find this absolutely fantastic because it means things are never dull and there are continually new opportunities to learn.

Q: You’ve had a couple different roles at Interset. From your experience, what has been the most fascinating aspect of big data cybersecurity deployments at customers?
A: Integration, both in terms of platform and workflow for the end users of our analytics. Each and every customer is utilizing our software differently (even if only slightly), and it’s fascinating to understand how we fill gaps in otherwise very complex security environments.

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring big data architects?
A: Things break and, with big data, things break at scale. Never underestimate the importance of redundancy. For those just starting out: Google (GCP) and Amazon (EC2) both offer free trials for their cloud offerings, so be sure to jump on that if you’re looking for hardware to play with.
